Eleven young Caymanians have completed Divemaster training as part of an eight-week program as part of a national tourism training program.

The Department of Tourism has partnered with local dive operators Ocean Frontiers and Go Pro Diving to guide participants through the PADI certification course, with the goal of increasing the number of Caymanians in the diving industry.

“The Ministry of Tourism is committed to training displaced Caymanian workers for opportunities in the industry and upgrading their skills. We need to make sure that anyone interested in a career in tourism can access the resources needed to pursue one, especially young Caymanians, â€Tourism Minister Kenneth Bryan said in a press release.

“Diving is one of the key activities that we are known for here in the Caymans and it is encouraging to see that the Caymanians are receiving these qualifications,†he added.

Since their certification, several participants have assisted in coral restoration projects on Cayman reefs.
