WLAX: Hertsch and Parrella start the AU Pro season on Friday; Aired on CBS Sports Network

Hempstead, NY – A pair of former Hofstra women’s lacrosse kicks off their professional seasons this Friday as Katie Hertsch (’11) and Alyssa Parrella (’21) competes in the inaugural season of Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse.

Hertsch has had a long professional career since graduating from college, appearing in a multitude of leagues, while Parrella will make her professional debut this weekend.

Hertsch (’11) is billed as one of the best defenders ever to equip for pride. She amassed 138 balls on the ground, 70 induced turnovers and 110 draft checks. She ranks in the top 10 in program history in both rushing balls and induced turnovers and in the all-time top 20 at Hofstra in draw controls.

Parrella ended her career with 261 goals to rank 10th in NCAA history. She also ranks 15th all-time in NCAA history with 355 points. Parrella’s goals and points are both the best in Hofstra and CAA history. His 94 assists are second at Hofstra and ninth in CAA history. Parrella finished with 196 draw checks to place fourth in program history and seventh in the CAA.

The opening day of the season will see Hertsch play for Team Douty and Parrella for Team O’Donnell. The games will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network this Friday at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse is the third league under the AU umbrella. Games will be played in the DC metro area at Maureen Hendricks Field starting July 23, 2021. The season is shortened to five weeks of intense city play from July 23 through August 22. Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse will play a short, fast paced format consisting of eight minute quarters, 9v9 gameplay, and a 60 second timer, all housed on an 80yd x 50yd playing field. The game will begin with draws at the start of each quarter as well as after each goal. The top four players become captains each week and draft their squads from scratch for the matches the following week. In our scoring system, each player can lose or gain points in each match. Athletes score points as individuals and as a team to earn MVP titles and cash bonuses.
