blue, 21 minutes agoBecause they always arrive a generation late. And for their poor support. Well, that’s not exactly a bargain. And Sony buyers aren’t buying it for the software support either.

[deleted post]The same applies to Sony…it’s not their problem if you can’t afford the best features and high-end qualities that other phones lack.

As much as I love the Sony Xperia series as a whole, I agree with most of this article; I’d love to buy one, but certainly not for $1,000 or Euros – by that logic, I can just stick with my Sony Xperia XZ1 or Samsung Galaxy A52.

I’ve never heard anyone say that Apple is too expensive. You must grow.

A

In fact, all high-end flagships are expensive, especially in Europe, and there isn’t a huge price gap between different brands. Look at other top products. A Vivo x80pro launched at €1,200 (for example in Spain) or €1,300 (Germany) depending on the country. The Find x5 pro is launched at a similar price (€1,299). Xiaomi has decided not to launch the Xiaomi 12s ultra. If they did, it would probably cost even more, certainly between €1,300 and €1,400, which could be why they’re hesitant to launch it. Basically, major Chinese brands have similar prices to Apple and Samsung in Europe. So compared to those, this Sony phone is not expensive, relatively speaking. If that’s too expensive, they’re all too expensive at launch. If you want a flagship from any Android brand close to the launch date, you have to pay that kind of price. For anyone who wants a cheaper flagship option, they probably have to wait for sales or buy an older Android flagship.

It is impossible to understand why out of all the flagship phones in the market, it is always the Sony phones that are labeled as overpriced when they come in at the same price compared to other high-end phones.

Sony has always missed a thing or two from its flagship devices. The Xperia 5 mk IV is their best device yet (more ergonomic shape, wireless charger and all the flagship essentials). The determining factors are: availability, warranty, price.

Low efficiency and overheating are less of a “Sony problem” and more of a problem with the latest batches of Qualcomm processors. QSD 865+, 888, 888+ and QC 8g1 are affected, and the situation is getting worse as these latest devices trade the scales for benchmark performance. We should see this fixed with QC 8g1+, QC 8g2 and later versions.

So even though I’ve been tempted before, and I’m very tempted now, it’s hard for me to pull the trigger. I would have to import it, which means higher than MSRP, no warranty and other annoying factors. And that won’t change with the mk V or the mk VI.

I guess I’d pull the trigger if they didn’t either; offered it in my region, drastically reduced its price (-35%), or made some clever hardware changes/upgrades, like moving to a more compact 17:9 aspect ratio or something else.

It’s hard to talk about prices because different countries have different shipping taxes and custom rates. One thing I always notice about the Sony smartphone is that every country costs the same regardless of the currency. Even if you do the currency conversion to USD or EUR, it remains the same as the price sold in the US and Europe in the first place.

the price seems right to me with all that it has…
I wasn’t expecting a hike on the battery and wireless charging which eclipses my preference over zenfone9…
but of course, if it sells for around 800usd, it would be “buy it now”…
