The suspect who asked a woman for sexual favors in exchange for her help was held for 24 hours before being released on bail.

KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested a head of department in the Sabah State government for allegedly requesting bribes in the form of sexual services from a woman.

The man has also been transferred from his current post, Secretary of State Safar Untong said in a statement today.

The 51-year-old, based in Keningau, was arrested at a hotel yesterday at 3:30 p.m.

It is believed that the sexual favors were intended for the suspect to support the woman’s loan application in the agricultural sector.

Sabah MACC director S Karunanithy confirmed the arrest when contacted today.

He said the suspect was held for 24 hours before being released on RM 10,000 bail.

Safar, cited by Bernama, said the state government takes allegations of corruption and sexual misconduct very seriously and places great importance on the integrity and conduct of state officials.

Appropriate legal action will immediately be taken against the officer involved, he said. The State Civil Service Department would give the MACC its full cooperation.
