NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – The towns of North Richland Hills, Richland Hills, Haltom City and Watauga are getting more creative this year, adding a drone light show to their annual fireworks display.

It is believed to be the first spectacle in the state of Texas to be combined with drones.

“It will be spectacular and we really want to make it unforgettable,” said Preston Ward, owner of Prestotechnics and Sky Elements, the two companies hosting the show.

It comes after last year’s show was canceled, giving Ward and his team two years to make the show even better.

Although the idea to add a drone light show came in November after seeing President Joe Biden’s election display in November.

“When we saw this… we absolutely had to figure out how to do it and how to add it to this display for the whole community,” Ward said.

It’s an addition he’s never seen in Texas before.

“This is the first with a municipal fireworks display and a drone light show,” he said.

The show will begin with 100 light drones flying at a time to create shapes in the sky.

“This screen has 12 different animations that they’re going to be working on,” he said.

They are all controlled and programmed by computers. This is part of a 25 minute show that will also end with plenty of fireworks.

The free show is set for this Sunday July 4 at 9:30 p.m.
