Hyderabad: Telangana has pioneered the use of drone technology and created an ecosystem for drone companies to succeed and grow, and Hyderabad is quickly turning into a drone capital, senior official said of the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA).

The Telangana government, through its “Medicine from the Sky” initiative, recently launched the first organized drone delivery program of its kind in Asia, with trials in Vikarabad district focusing on the establishment of the drone delivery network that will improve access to health care supplies for remote and vulnerable communities. The initiative is supported by the World Economic Forum, NITI Aayog and HealthNet Global (Apollo Hospitals).

Amber Dubey, co-secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, told Telangana Today: “Hyderabad has the ability not only to compete with other major Indian cities, but also with China and the Western world in space. drones. There are huge opportunities for the city. Hyderabad is quickly turning into a drone capital and there is a lot of government support for the drone industry. Drones can certainly disrupt the way technology can help sectors like agriculture make an impact on the ground. Dubey pointed out that drones can help farmers with the data information needed on the farm to improve their yield, while drone spraying can address the health risks associated with manual spraying of fertilizers, insecticides or of pesticides. Getting drones inside India will be a key goal for governments.

Pushing the PLI scheme

He added: “Telangana does a great job in the drone segment and has been very proactive in its policies and approach. We’ll be working to speed up drone approvals for the state to help keep that momentum going. Hyderabad will also be able to take advantage of the recently announced Production Incentive Program (PLI), both from a manufacturing and software development perspective. “

On September 15, the Indian government approved the PLI program for the drone industry to improve India’s manufacturing capabilities. The program will bring new investments of over Rs 5,000 crore in three years and additional production of over Rs 1,500 crore and create additional jobs of around 10,000 jobs.

The MoCA expects the annual turnover of the drone manufacturing industry to grow from Rs 60 crore in 2020-2021 to over Rs 900 crore in the 2023-24 fiscal year. The program allocates Rs 120 crore for drones and drone components spread over three fiscal years, nearly double the combined revenue of all domestic drone manufacturers in fiscal year 2020-21.
