Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro screen and camera specifications

People at 9to5Google have decompiled the Google Camera 8.3 APK which is rolled out as part of the Android 12 Beta 3 operating system. The new APK camera revealed some details regarding the display, rear cameras and front camera of the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro. Here’s what they found.

Pixel 6 could have FHD + resolution and Pixel 6 Pro could have QHD + resolution

The Google Camera 8.3 APK code mentions where the front camera of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro should be. According to her, the Pixel 6’s selfie camera should be located 540 pixels from the left edge of the screen, while the Pixel 6 Pro’s selfie camera should be located 722 pixels from the left edge of the screen.

Now renderings for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro show that both phones will have a selfie camera located in a punch hole mounted in the top center portion of the display. So that means the Pixel 6’s screen has 540 pixels on the left side of the camera and 540 pixels on the right side of the camera. If you do the math (540 pixels + 540 pixels), the Pixel 6 will have a screen with a resolution of 1080 pixels. In other words, the Pixel 6’s screen will have FHD + resolution. Likewise, the Pixel 6 Pro’s screen will have QHD + resolution.

That’s not all, the code also reveals that the perforated cutout in the Pixel 6’s display will have a diameter of 55 pixels, which is slightly smaller than the 65-pixel punched cutout in the Pixel 5’s display. Pixel 6 Pro, meanwhile, is said to have a screen with a 70-pixel perforated cutout, which is slightly larger than that of the Pixel 5.

Pixel 6 Pro could record 4K videos with the front camera

9to5Google dug deeper to find out why the Pixel 6 Pro’s screen has a bigger punch hole. They discovered that the phone had a special feature called “p21_front_setup”, which is not available in the Pixel 6. This suggests that the Pixel 6 Pro has a different camera sensor and / or additional features compared to it. At the Pixel 6 discovery, they believe the Pixel 6 Pro’s selfie camera can record 4K video. However, there is no evidence to support this speculation.

There might be a forward facing LED flash

The Google Camera 8.3 APK teardown reveals that the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will have a feature called a “head torch”. This suggests that both Pixel 6 smartphones will have an LED flash for the front camera. Could the term “head torch” indicate a screen flash feature like the one we see in the Google Pixel 5? Well, that doesn’t seem to be the case. Because the code of the Google Pixel 5 does not mention the term “front torch”.

Pixel 6 series can offer 7x zoom when recording 4K / 60fps videos

According to the Google Camera 8.3 APK code, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will offer up to 7x zoom capability while recording videos in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second. In comparison, the Google Pixel 5 only offers 3x zoom when recording video in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second. It also offers 5x zoom but only in 4K / 30fps video recording mode.

The Pixel 6 Pro could come with a 5x telephoto lens

XDA developers have also made some digging in the latest APK of Google Camera. They found that he mentioned the term “ultralele”. This term suggests that the Pixel 6 series might have a telephoto lens. The rumors we have so far suggest that the Pixel 6 Pro will ship with a telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom. The latest discovery reinforces these rumors.

Pixel 6 series might miss Super Res zoom

The Google Camera 8.3 APK has the “SABRE_ALLOWED” feature turned off for the Pixel 6 series. This feature is related to the popular Super Res Zoom feature that we find in Google Pixel 5 smartphones. Super Res Zoom adds detail to photos on the go. using machine learning, which makes the images look like they were taken with a telephoto lens. Maybe Google is disabling this feature because Pixel 6 smartphones will have a telephoto lens. There is no concrete information at the moment.
