Drones will be used to move logistics in hostile areas | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: Drones, which are typically put into service for surveillance and anti-sabotage exercises, are now used by security agencies to move their logistics to hostile terrain where it takes a long time.
Now that the government has allowed drones to move more than 300 kilograms of payloads, authorities want to use it on terrain like mounds and at borders where moving logistics is difficult and takes time. Various central security agencies are in discussions with drone developers to procure drones solely for the movement of logistics.
Officials gave the mandate and it is now up to drone developers to make heavy-duty weather-resistant drones suitable for hostile terrain.
“This is primarily seen to reduce travel time and manpower. In a hilly area it takes a long time to reach the destination, but a drone can overcome this problem, ”a source involved in the discussion with a leading security agency told TOI. It will take at least a few months before it is developed and tested for real-time use.
In anti-naxal operations, too, the use of drones is being explored by the police. Although the use of a drone to locate the movement of naxals under forest cover is very limited, the technologies available allow the presence of a person to be identified from a distance under cover.
By judging body temperature from a distance, the drone can inform its owners about the presence of a human. But there are limits to its use because one cannot distinguish whether the person under the vegetation cover of the forest is a naxal or a local person in a hamlet.
