When the PGA Tour sent an email to its members on Tuesday evening informing players that it had refused conflicting event release requests to play in the inaugural LIV Golf Invitational Series event in London the same week as the RBC Canadian Open of the Tour, he was bound to become a topic of conversation at this week’s AT&T Byron Nelson.

“As a membership organization, we believe this decision is in the best interests of the PGA Tour and its players,” wrote Tyler Dennis, senior vice president and chief operating officer of the Tour.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler said he had a busy night at home, got up early and played his pro am and didn’t get a lot of time to process the decision of the Tour, but that he had on the face of it supported the decision.

“I thought it was something that would happen,” he said in his press conference ahead of the AT&T Byron Nelson Tournament in his hometown of Dallas. “If you’re playing here on the PGA Tour, playing in something that might be a rival series to the PGA Tour, you’re a member of our Tour, that’s definitely not something we want our members to do. because it’s going to hurt the tournament that we have in front of this and that’s, I’m sure that’s why they were, why they didn’t release the players Because if we have 15 guys, come on out there and play, it hurts the RBC and the Canadian Open.

Will Zalatoris reacts after making a putt on the ninth green during the final round of the 2022 Zurich Classic from New Orleans to Avondale, Louisiana. (Photo: Andrew Wevers-USA TODAY Sports)

Will Zalatoris, rookie of the year and a member of the Tour’s Players’ Advisory Council, participated in closed-door discussions and fully supported the decision made by commissioner Jay Monahan.

“I thought that was the perfect answer,” Zalatoris said. “Because we’re in a great place, the Tour is in the best place it’s ever been, it’s only going to get better and why would we, why would we encourage our players to get releases for these events then that we basically have all these sponsors who are involved in the Tour and only make it better and better and we try to promote our best possible product and if you want to be part of what is only getting better then you shouldn’t have it both ways. It’s up to you, I mean, you really do. You can go if you want to, but, you know, that’s the way it is.

Justin Thomas has made it clear many times that he wants to win tournaments and create an in-game legacy more than just filling his bank account with more profit.

“I hope that will deter them from going there,” he said. “I think Jay was very clear from the start about what was going to happen or, you know, I think a lot of people are probably like ‘I can’t believe you did that’ or ‘Wow, you went through that.’ But I mean, that’s what he said was going to happen from the start. And, yeah, it’s one of those things where he just doesn’t want the competing tour, back and forth. You know, it’s like, look, if you want to go, go. I mean there’s been a lot of guys who have been advocates for it and talked about it all the time and they’ve been guys behind the scenes saying, ‘I’m going, I’m doing this.’ And like all my stuff is, how to go then. Like stop going back and forth or like you say you’re going to do that, it’s like you can do — everyone has the right to do whatever they want, you know what I mean?

“Like if I wanted to go play this tour, I could go play this tour. But I’m loyal to the PGA Tour and I’ve said that and I think there’s a lot of opportunity for me to, I mean, break records, write history, do a lot of things on the PGA Tour what I want to do. And there might be people who want to make that change and it’s like you have the right to make that decision, you’re a human being and that’s just part of that.

Former European Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley, who has played most of his career on the DP World Tour, has been captain, Ryder Cup team-mate and competitor with many European players linked to the membership in the LIV series (including Lee Westwood, Sergio Garcia among others) brings a Eurocentric perspective. He spoke his mind in an interview Wednesday with SiriusXM and joined Scheffler, Thomas and Zalatoris in supporting established tours, which announced a strategic alliance in 2020 and are said to be discussing a closer relationship to push back the Saudi threat.

“I’m not going to make it personal, they’re all friends of mine,” McGinley said. “But I’m very traditionalist, I’m very aligned with the PGA, the DP World Tour and the major championships indeed in terms of maintaining and improving the status quo that we have right now, which is, you know, every week we have European and PGA tours so I want to improve it I think we have some commonalities between the two tours trying to improve that, uh, to get a global program in a way I know that there are talks behind the scenes about these two major tours coming together and working more collaboratively in the future.

LIV Golf, which on Tuesday announced a $2 billion infusion to support its launch, touted sky-high purses and guaranteed money to entice players to attend its events.

“I can kind of understand and see where the guys are coming from. I mean, the amount of money that’s been put on the table is an incredible, huge amount. And so late in their career, an opportunity to make so much money,” McGinley said. “In many ways, I can relate to the allure they were offered and why it would interest them. But it’s certainly not, personally from my point of view, the side of the fence where I am.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a pro who splits his time on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour told our Eamon Lynch the following: “I’m sure I’m weighing the pros and cons of making a jump like this. What a Jay [Monahan] decides is an extremely important part of that. Asking permission to play an international “tour” event is something I have done with the PGA Tour since I first picked up my card many years ago. I understand that the initial construction of this LIV Tour was destructive in nature if the PGA Tour did not want to be a part of it. Here, in the short term, events are timed to be as non-confrontational as possible, which is hard to do. As a player who plays multiple tours, conflicting events are something we always deal with and I can’t see how the LIV tour is any different until there are 48 guys locked in for 14 events per season.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness by Sam Raimi was released worldwide on the 6thand May 2022. It is the second part of the Doctor Strange series but also depends on Wanda Vision. The film is 126 minutes long and is part of the Disney Marvel franchise.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness movie cast

  • Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange
  • Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch and Wanda Maximoff
  • Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez
  • Benedict Wong as Wong

Plot of the movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Waking up from one of the most exhilarating dreams, Strange travels to Christine’s wedding. Within a day, he realizes that the dream he saw might be something more than that. Doctor Strange tackles a kind of problem no one ever dreamed of and with it is the newest addition to the franchise, America Chavez.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness movie review

As far back as I can remember, Marvel is definitely one of the most popular franchises in the world. His films are anticipated over the years and his series flow over the analyzes in the smallest details. In 2021, Marvel began its Phase 4 with the WandaVision series starring Elizabeth Olsen. In May 2022, they released what was one of the most anticipated Phase 4 films, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Starring Benedict Cumberbatch as the title character, the film is one of the most convoluted stories of the phase and the franchise in general. Doctor Strange has encountered the subject of the multiverse a few times before this film, the most recent being with Spider Man. This is one of those areas that Stephen probably doesn’t include in addition to his expertise due to anyone’s ignorance.

The introduction of America Chavez in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

When he wakes up from an uplifting dream, Stephen decides not to think about it too much and moves on to his ex-girlfriend’s wedding. An event that I suspect would have been taxing enough on its own, Strange then has to save people from a one-eyed monster. This event is where we are introduced to the latest superhero, America Chavez.

It won’t be the first time you’ve seen it, but it will be the first time it has context. She introduces herself to Strange and Wong (who have joined Strange in destroying the monster) and from that moment begins the film’s complicated turmoil.

There are a lot of things happening in the film. However, there is something completely offbeat in the 2 hours we spend at the theatre. There are plenty of times the story will have you gasping audibly and even a few that will have you shouting profanities at the screen, but overall the movie seemed to be a lot messier than expected.

strange defender

The movie’s incredible story is turned upside down by bad choices

There were some great moments in the film that I choose not to mention here simply because even with all the complaints I have for the film, I will urge everyone to watch it. The story of the film is out of this world (literally and metaphorically) and on top of that the cast gave such a great performance that it would be an injustice for fans not to revel in it.

Let’s move on to the parts that really pissed me off. The camera work was so poor. Not for the entire duration of the movie, but in some specific (and very important) scenes, the camera looked like a cheap go pro had been attached to a free will stand that captured the game in the most random. If it was to communicate how random the entire moment for the characters was, it unfortunately wasn’t communicated well.

In addition to the highly questionable cinematography, there was the editing. There is no justification for how some of the scene changes were made. There was a scene change that involved the previous scene being blurred out of Wong’s face in order to start the next scene with Wong. It felt like the laziest transition ever. For a full minute, I dealt with this transition rather than anything Wong was worried about.

One thing viewers need to keep in mind is that they can’t get out of the movie at all. Every second some piece of information is given that is super important for story building. As the film is context-heavy, missing small details can leave the viewer grasping for flaws near the end. It’s both a truly amazing experience as a fan and a boring experience for those who don’t really care about Marvel.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness introduces a variety of new people

As mentioned earlier, there is a lot going on in the movie. There are many new faces and several new storylines. It’s the kind of experience that draws the viewer in and invests them in every storyline. Yet something was missing. It was as if Marvel wrote every shock point on a whim. While that would leave fans on the edge of their seats confused and shocked, it also kept certain topics on their toes. One might wonder if Marvel has a plan for how this will work towards the end and indeed for the rest of Marvel’s future.

Marvel fans know that a movie like this determines the rest of the fandom’s journey and yet this movie gave no such direction. He didn’t answer or ask anything. It was more informative than building. I wouldn’t say the film lacked thought because none of Wanda’s battles in the film were like “the usual”. In fact, the movie itself was completely unique from anything Marvel has done. Perhaps it was the uniqueness that Marvel was aiming for for the film that they lost where they were headed.

Elizabeth Olsen possesses Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Elizabeth Olsen owns this suite

That said, Phase 4 was about Marvel heading into a new world, so there might be something just as whimsical to look forward to. With the technical aspects of the film irritating me to no end, the actors raised all the standards. They went beyond the expectations they had. Elizabeth Olsen gave a life-changing performance and Cumberbatch gave such a shocking yet charming performance. Shocker, once you see the movie.

Wong should have had more screen time because he was so cute and his character was hilarious. Special mention to early Marvel Xochitl who stole my heart and interest by making America so adorable and perfect.

Film Culture Synopsis

A film that I will drag one into the theater to watch but after a really informative speech. This requires an understanding of several previous productions and also the full attention of the viewer. The speech I would give for the film will also include a warning about the technical aspects of the film which should be overlooked because after ignoring the film is a very good production.

A first look at UNC’s 2023 NFL Draft prospects https://meai-modelisme.com/a-first-look-at-uncs-2023-nfl-draft-prospects/ Sat, 07 May 2022 17:38:05 +0000 https://meai-modelisme.com/a-first-look-at-uncs-2023-nfl-draft-prospects/ It’s now been a week since the NFL Draft began, and we all hope we’ve at least begun to get past the clash of Sam Howell who dropped all the way to the 5th round of this year’s edition, among 4 Tar Heels who were eventually picked up. It’s now been a week since the NFL Draft began, and we all hope we’ve at least begun to get past the clash of Sam Howell who dropped all the way to the 5th round of this year’s edition, among 4 Tar Heels who were eventually picked up. And while we still have a whole season of college football to preview, analyze, and experiment with first, it can’t hurt to take a look and see who from the UNC 2022 squad could put on an NFL hat. in a year. .

Josh Downs, wide receiver

Downs is likely getting even more hype than Howell was last year from draft evaluators – while Howell was supposed to be among the best in a weak QB class, Downs is right at the top of another group phenomenal wide receivers (to be fair, I’m not sure we’re going to see a down year for receivers for quite some time). I’ve seen at least 3 mock drafts way too early in 2023 that put him through to the first round, and one that even puts him in the top 10. Top 10 might be a bit rich for him, but I think The first-round hype is completely earned, and unlike Howell, there are far fewer questions he has to answer to pay it off.

Downs’ incredible stop-start acceleration and change of direction, clever and nuanced road racing and very good top speed help him open up on all three levels to the zone or man and to be absolutely deadly after taking. He’s got insane body control (see that touchdown against Virginia) and better jumping ability than you’d think from his height, offset by a 42-inch vertical. There will be questions about his size and whether that relegates him instead, but those questions are easier to answer in a post-Tyreek Hill world. It’s not a perfect prospect – his hands are fine, but not drop-proof, and he occasionally grabs the body and limits his grab radius – but few are, and he has a lot going for him.

Screening: end 1st – start 2nd rounds

Myles Murphy, defensive tackle

UNC’s defense was pretty bleak last year, with several promising players in decline and the whole unit not really functioning as a cohesive whole. But one of the few bright spots was the emergence of Myles Murphy anchoring the defensive line. He led UNC’s defensive front with 38 tackles, was second on the team with 9 tackles for loss and 4 sacks, and had 3 assists in his first year of full-time action. Murphy impressed with his strength against the meat of opposing offensive lines, pushing himself as a pass thrower and run stopper. He struggled with his consistency and finishing plays, but when the UNC defense made a good play in the offensive backfield, Murphy was almost always involved.

He’s about to really break out as a junior, with an offseason to learn what works for him and what doesn’t, improve his conditioning for consistency, and improve as a tackler. But much of his value, as a 2-spread defensive tackle, will become clear with a hopefully improved and more consistent defensive front, and I fully expect him to prove himself as a NFL-ready anchor for an interior defensive. .

Screening: 4th round

Tony Grimes, cornerback

Grimes made an impact at the end of his true first season, when he should have still been in high school, with a few standout plays, including a ridiculous cast, and excellent overall coverage. Much was expected of him in 2021, but the aforementioned defensive confusion certainly did him a disservice. Grimes was still good, leading UNC’s pass defense by a wide margin in PFF coverage grade, but he wasn’t the playmaker that was promised, and found himself on the wrong side of many. big plays because he expected security help where there was none. He led his team with 9 passes defended, but didn’t record a single interception, and his physical style got him in penalty trouble, to boot. He also drew a lot of ire for his reluctance to get physical in the running game, often not making huge efforts to get rid of wide receivers or squirm on the edge instead of trying to make a solid tackle. Despite all that, he’s clearly talented and has some lock-in ability as a cornerback, and a change in defensive coordinator could do wonders for him and help him recapture some of that old magic.

Ja’Qurious Conley, Security

Conley is an absolute beast around the line of scrimmage. He’s probably UNC’s best strength defender in the running game and is coming to the outside screens quickly. He’s a fierce tackler and he plays with abandon with the ball in front of him. It’s more the skill of a linebacker for the next level than that of a safety, though, and Conley is a bit short to play linebacker, even as a kind of moneybacker guy who’s earned some buy in the NFL. Conley is still working on his covering ability, but he was burned very often by tight ends last year and is going to have to improve that part of his game a bit to become a legitimate NFL prospect. He is also currently recovering from knee surgery to repair a torn ACL and MCL, so that has to be taken into account.

Antoine Green, wide receiver

Antoine Green’s career at UNC so far has been a combination of rotten injury luck and waiting for the light to come on as he recovers from those injuries and tries to regain the traits. that made him a 4 star hopeful. In the second half of last year, however, something started to click for him, and in four of UNC’s last five FBS games, Green had at least 3 catches for at least 70 yards apiece, adding 4. of his 5 touchdowns in that span as Good. For the season, he caught 31 passes for 612 yards (19.7 yards per catch), finishing the season with a respectable No. 2 line thanks to his late-season push. He still shows promise as a top-tier receiver with his speed, deep-ball tracking ability and hands, but he needs to put together a full season of productivity to have a chance of being drafted, and with receivers much less crowded. room than last year, he has every chance of getting there. A good first step would be to improve his short-intermediate course.

Cedric Gray, linebacker

Gray took the reins as UNC’s second inside linebacker for about a quarter of the season and more than acquitted himself in his first time playing serious minutes, leading the team in tackles with 99 for go with 2 interceptions, 2.5 sacks and 6 tackles for loss. Gray will be counted on to fill the on-field leadership void left by Jeremiah Gemmel, who is now with the San Francisco 49ers, and could join UNC’s recent linebacker lineup to turn pro if he continues to excel. I don’t know how he’ll handle an expanded role, though, and he might not be quite ready for the NFL after less than 2 years away.

Kamari Morales at the tight end is a pretty good blocker and was a reliable chain mover for the heels last year, but that could be his ceiling, and at 6’1 he’s further back than the tight end for the next level – he’s good at what he does, but that might end up not being enough for the NFL. Noah Spencer at the edge of the defender and Corey Gaynor and Spencer Rolland on the offensive line are all the grad transfers who could end up thriving in new environments the same way Ty Chandler did. Evans put on some good games at the end of last season and could be ready to burst into a seemingly streamlined role where he will simply attack the ball as a 3-4 defensive end rather than checking cover when called in as an outside linebacker, but he still needs to refine his technique and develop real passing moves if he wants to take it to the next level.

Rugby faces a serious problem, particularly Irish rugby. The debate over professionalism in women’s football and how the lack of full-time contracts is hampering Ireland before they even step onto the pitch against a team as talented, well-trained and, well, professional, as England, continues to rage. What about the issue of player safety? Owen Doyle points out in his column today that it’s not safe to put amateurs on the same playing field as full-time pros. Utilizing both scrum and force running through a player’s spine, as well as the issue of high tackling, which threatens both sides but tends to be more prevalent in a team under cosh and therefore more unruly, it argues that aside from a results perspective, Troy’s relentless effort required to close the gap on the pitch creates unnecessary risks to player safety. In today’s other rugby column, Gerry Thornley says “going a long way” at the prospect of a “next gen” URC league which would hurt the recently rejuvenated AIL.

Are the Dubs back? Did they ever leave? Kevin McStay believes talent and ability have never gone away during their doomed league campaign: “Dublin have not become a useless team. This was known even as we watched them sink in the league. The question was whether they were still a motivated team. And at Wexford Park, in all fundamental aspects, they ticked the boxes. What we’ve seen is a team getting into championship shape with a daunting level of intent. In other GAA news, Louth’s manager mickey hart and Claire boss Brian Lohan have spoken publicly since about their respective fortunes in last weekend’s Championship action.

Mike Forsberg, a conservation photographer from Nebraska, has been traveling the “cantor’s route” for a month following the migration path of whooping cranes, an endangered species since 1970.

Forsberg and his three-man team document the changes in the crane’s migration path and the people who encounter them along the way, to show the importance of conserving their habitat.

To do this, the team set up time-lapse cameras all along the migration corridor. Each camera, about 12 in total, will take a photo every half hour for the next year.

The Whooping Crane is often considered a conservation success. On the brink of extinction in the 1940s and 1950s, a small herd of whooping cranes has thrived since the 1970s, in part due to an international effort. In 2018, the flock consisted of approximately 508 birds.

Cranes spend the winter months along the Texas coast at the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge and nest in the wetlands of Wood Buffalo National Park during the summer months.

The first camera was placed at Aransas National Wildlife Refuge and the last at Wood Buffalo.

“You can see the seasons change, you can see the weather change,” Forsberg said. “You can bring the earth to life in a way that makes it a living, breathing thing.”

Forsberg, pilot Chris Boyer of Montana and ground operations coordinator Jeff Dale – also of Nebraska – departed Texas by land and air on April 6 and arrived at Fort Smith, Northwest Territories, on April 25.

Make the same travel decisions as cranes

Their plane was also equipped with go-pro cameras, one on each wing, one on the tail and one in the cockpit.

The team only moved to the next location when all the outside conditions allowed, which meant making the same decisions the cranes make while on the move.

Forsberg plans to write a book about the experience, which will include photos and a collection of voices from people he met along the way. The research they collect will be used to create educational resources and eventually, he hopes, a documentary.

Learn from local indigenous knowledge

While in Fort Smith, Forsberg met with local whooping crane expert Ronnie Schaefer, to gather information on local nesting habitat and behaviors from a traditional knowledge perspective.

Schaefer was able to share what he learned from observation and oral history about the northern crane diet of snails, frogs and snakes, which Forsberg says was previously unknown to biologists. from South.

Schaefer hopes this project will highlight the importance of whooping cranes in the region.

“We have a bylaw prohibiting trespassing, but it’s not enforced,” Schaefer said.

He also said the Salt River First Nation, where some of the cranes are nesting, intended to employ a conservation officer to monitor the area, but that hasn’t happened either.

Schaefer is most concerned about camper traffic in the nesting area during the long weekends in May and August. He previously put up signs to educate people about endangered species in the area, but finds that they are mostly used for target practice.

“It’s an opportunity to share with people how amazing these creatures are,” Forsberg said. “If you can get [people] to appreciate them, so maybe they can appreciate them enough to care.”

Forsberg also worked closely with Lori Parker, ecologist at Wood Buffalo National Park. In addition to helping with the recent trip, Parker will also help coordinate Forsberg’s return to the region in late May.

10 days of waiting in a store

In this final stage of the project, Forsberg plans to photograph a whooping crane nest. It will sit in a blind for 10 days, without going outside, to minimize the impact on the crane’s habitat and other wildlife.

He also hopes to capture nesting sites with Schaefer, sharing the importance of obtaining the oral history of cranes from an Aboriginal perspective.

While in the area, Forsberg will lead a wildlife photography workshop with Wood Buffalo National Park.

Forsberg hopes to unveil the project around October 2023, to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Endangered Species Act and the 50th anniversary of the International Crane Foundation.

He said following the cranes through their 320 km wide migration corridor has been a powerful experience, seeing the landscape change and connecting it with wildlife and people along the way.

“This is an important time to tell the story of these birds,” Forsberg said. “This is the last flock of truly wild migratory birds, if this flock didn’t exist we wouldn’t have whooping cranes on the planet.”

Welcome to your Pittsburgh Steelers mailbag. The last one before the start of the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. It’s going to be a crazy night. We’re here for the next hour for last-second answers.

To your questions!

NickRVA: Hey Alex, have a great draft day! It was great to hear your excitement about returning to St. Vincent this summer. With all the additions to the team over the years they’ve been around, is there one person (currently on the roster or soon to be) or unit you’d most like to watch this summer?

Alexander: Happy draft day, Nick! Without a doubt, I’m excited to return to Latrobe. I don’t know if there’s anyone above the rest that I can’t wait to see. I’m interested in all of them. The young guys trying to make the jump, the new faces, how all the pieces fit together.

Obviously there will be interest in Trubisky and life after Ben. Double if this team drafts a QB today.

The 2nd years of guys like Dan Moore Jr. and Kendrick Green are definitely worth watching too.

SteelerFan08: Hey Alex – How many receivers are we leaving with the draft this year?

Alexander: I will say one. Probably from the second round. Round 3-4 at the latest. Always the chance to double up late, but they only have seven picks this year. When they double up, it’s often because they have a ton of picks (8+).

falconsafey43: Do you see the ILB as a first-round possibility (Dean, Harris, Quay Walker would seem to “fit”)? I don’t know how their view of Bush plays into this possibility. Not as clear as with Edmunds (who they clearly agree to leave from) at SS.

Alexander: As a possibility, of course. I think Walker would fit best and be the likeliest option in the group. But with Jack signed and some hope on Bush for 2022, that’s much less likely than other positions. But it is worth mentioning.

JMD: If the Steelers become ILB in the first round, would they turn around and immediately trade Bush for picks in 2022?

Alexander: I don’t think he would have a ton of value right now. ACL in 2020, bad game in 2021. I’d rather stick with him and see if you can turn things around. Otherwise, move on after this season.

A B:

Hi Alex,

With all the draft brouhaha, how soon do you think the Steelers will announce the next GM after the draft? If you’re the Rooneys, how fast do you want your next guy to take the chair before all the workout routines start?

Alexander: I don’t know the exact timing, but I guess it’s mid-May. Interview the finalists a week after the draft, make a decision a week later. But it could be a little later than that. There’s not a super big rush for that to happen now, I guess. Quieter part of the offseason and obviously no one else is competing to hire a general manager right now. But I think it’s good to make this transition earlier so that the new guy runs the show.

SteelDodo: Hi Alex,
All the fake drafts have predicted what will happen tonight. If you were the general manager, how would you like to make the draft? For example, which players/positions would be your top 3/4 picks?

Alexander: I don’t feel as strong this year as I did last year. It’s more mixed. I would look at Willis/Corral as first-round QB options. Then watch the slot/safety on day two, OT on day three with an RB that also receives strong consideration. I guess it’s not too different from conversations right now.

I don’t have a “guy” I want to take at 20 like I did with Creed Humphrey last year. To say that if Kyle Hamilton falls, it is terribly difficult for me to pass the baton, even if the QBs are there.

hdogg48:

Alexander…

I can’t wait for you to weigh in on what
really happened tonight.

Read what you think is going to happen for months now.
becomes very tedious.

Alexander: It’s a little worn out for me too. Looking forward to getting answers tonight. Enjoy the draft!

HardPunkKore: Alex, thank you for all the great work you and the depot team have done to educate us on draft prospects and what the Steelers can do. My question for you is who is your favorite player in this draft? So who is a late-game gem that will be a draft steal?

Alexander: My favorite overall? Man, that could be Arnold Ebiketie, Penn State’s EDGE. I think the guy will have a great career. Not having enough love at the bottom of the first round. Same with WR Jahan Dotson.

Late Round Jewel? Several safeties that fit this bill. I would put Virginia S Joey Blount at the top of the list. Happy the Steelers have shown some interest.

Billjump: Could you see the Steelers make another trade this year similar to Loudermilk’s for an extra pick? If so, for which positions do you think this could make sense? Maybe tackle?

Alexander: Don’t rule it out because of that gap between the 4th and 6th round picks, but a minor trade like this is harder to do knowing you won’t get any comp picks next year. So unless you can pack your 6th/7th for a fifth, Colbert might not want to.

Which position? It could be DL again given the unusual body type the team is looking for at the end. Other than that, it could just be down to their board and a guy they really like.

JMD: Alex, let me go back to one of the previous questions: which player do you not want the Steelers to take over (out of the guys playing at #20)?

Alexander: Good question. I don’t know if a name comes to mind. Devonte Wyatt would be a surprise from a historical standpoint. I have a lower mark in the 2nd round on Kenny Pickett. So I would probably answer him in terms of “guys who could become Steelers, I wouldn’t.” Same with Desmond Ridder.

James Cowan:

Hi Alex,

Regarding interest in quarterbacks. Wouldn’t a responsible organization want to go and meet with them as often as possible, go to every pro day and have them all come in for the QB/OC coach/decision makers to watch the tape to understand their treatment etc. to make sure they’re not their guy? A good process is to do all the due diligence possible, which excludes someone and excludes them.

Alexander: Sure. It’s the smart thing to do and what they should/will do every year until they draft a QB. You’re right that sometimes it’s about excluding guys like excluding them. But it’s hard for us to know which guys are or aren’t. Why it has been difficult to assess which direction they will go. Hard to believe they don’t like five of these guys.

Bill Secherngost: Hi Alex. Great coverage as usual from everyone preparing us for the draft. So if the Steelers don’t draft a QB in the first round and some of the top 5 or 6 quarterbacks fall in the second round, would you draft/trade to get one in the second?

Alexander: Generally against. If you don’t like a QB in the first, I don’t know what makes him even more likable in the second. Either you think he’s the guy or he’s not. But we’ll see how the table unfolds. Maybe it’s a case of Kyle Hamilton or Jordan Davis dropping and they can’t pass it on, so they take it and then go back up.

The Tony:

Happy draft day Alex!

Are you planning to go on vacation out of season?

Alexander: I was too busy to think about that. Perhaps. No idea where I’m going. At the moment, my focus is only on the draft and the next three days.

Daniel Moon: Hey Alex, I really hope the Steelers don’t move forward by giving up a future 1st round pick because this year’s QB class doesn’t impress me at all. I think the Steelers are 1 or 2 pieces away from being competitive and their addition of a QB will not make this team any better this year. Why not go for someone like WR Olave, WR Williams, WR Wilson, DL Davis, S Hamilton who will contribute straight away.

Alexander: The argument seems to contradict itself. if they’re not one or two pieces away, why worry about writing a WR that will “contribute right away?” If anything, it should make the team look to a QB’s future and make a move for this guy. You would be more likely not to if you were 1 or 2 coins away from winning right now. What I agree with you, they are not.

By Adam Lucas

1. It’s going to be fun. Caleb Love’s Today’s announcement of his return for the 2022-23 season means all four eligible Iron Five members will be back for next season. This ensures the Tar Heels will be among the top three preseason picks by consensus for only the second time in the last ten seasons (the other was the 2015-16 season, when the Tar Heels started the season as a as best pre-season team in the country).

2. The schedule will probably suit the best team in the country. Carolina will play the Phil Knight Invitational in Portland Nov. 24-27, a 16-team stacked event that features two separate eight-team brackets. Half of Carolina’s squad, which has already been announced, includes Alabama, Iowa State, Michigan State, Oregon, Portland, UConn and Villanova (the women’s team in charge of Tar Heel will also compete in a four-team women’s event at the same location). The Heels are also likely due for a road game – in what is sure to be one of the showpiece games of the event – in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, and a destination and upcoming game in the CBS Sports Classic. Keep in mind that Hubert Davis also expressed a frequent preference for the Tar Heels to regularly play a game in New York.

3. A previous ACC announcement indicated that the three-year schedule matrix would repeat beginning with the 2022-23 season. If so, that should mean the Tar Heels will have home-and-away games with Notre Dame, Pitt, Virginia and Wake Forest. In this scenario, the Heels would have road games only with Florida State, Louisville, Syracuse and Virginia Tech, with home meetings only with Boston College, Clemson, Georgia Tech and Miami.

4. And, of course, this ACC regular season roster would be capped off with what should be an epic battle against Duke on a Saturday. If both teams play until preseason screenings, and given that this could be the last home appearance for some Tar Heel favorites, this could be one of the hottest Smith Center tickets over the course of the year. of the last decade.

5. The decisions of Armand Bacot and Caleb Love, in particular, highlight the new era of college basketball. It used to be that the decision to turn professional leaned heavily financially in favor of professional gaming. In 2022, however, the equation is quite different. The race to the 2022 national championship game and the storybook victory over Duke, combined with the new NIL rules, have catapulted Tar Heel players into a new marketing sphere. They took advantage of it, and it made their decision to come back easier.

6. As you think about next season – which we will probably be doing every day by mid-November – keep in mind that players and coaches have unanimously declared the presence of Brady Manek that’s what made the difference this year from a spacing point of view. We all know what the four returning starters can do. Ultimately, the success of the 2023 season could be determined by the improvements of the Tar Heel reserves who will compete for that starting fifth spot and the rest of the rotation, as well as the incoming freshmen. Dontrez Styles and Johnson puff both played a few key minutes in the 2022 tournament. Johnson’s three-point shot would be a major asset, and Styles possesses elite athleticism. Justin Mc Koy given Hubert Davis a taller body that can defend taller players inside, and D’Marco Dunn must make the frequent jump from the first to the second year.

7. Perhaps the biggest question will be the progress of Kerwin Walton, who stepped back in his second campaign after an encouraging first year. Walton needs to make significant improvements in defense and attack. But he has shown the ability to shoot from the outside at a productive ACC level, a skill that would make him a valuable asset if he can take the other steps.

8. And what about Tar Heel freshmen? Seth Trimble gets the immediate advantage of going against Caleb Love and RD Davis every day in training, a training ground that will make him much better in his save minutes and then in a much bigger role in his second year. If he’s healthy and ready to contribute, Jalen Washington may be playing the position that needs it the most, as he could give a big man some quality minutes. Tyler Nickel will experience a major competitive breakthrough, but Hubert Davis likes its competitiveness. And Go Shave made the wise decision to spend the spring semester training with the Tar Heels, and will have to continue to work hard with Jonas Sahratian to play meaningful minutes this season.

9. Because Someone Will Ask: The return of love means the Tar Heels are currently maxed out at 13 scholarships. This eliminates the need to chase players from the transfer portal.

10. Just a word of warning. There are no guarantees. It’s true that the Tar Heels are bringing back four key plays from one of the most fun tournaments of the 21st century. It’s as true as Hubert DavisThe evolution as a head coach and tactician has been one of the main reasons why Carolina has been so successful. But college basketball is now in a new era. The four players will essentially have three full-time jobs over the next 12 months: they will play a Division 1 sport at the highest level possible, they will be students and they will be a businessman who will market himself and his opportunities. NO. It’s something Phil Ford or Eric Montross or even Marcus Paige never had to worry.

How they balance those three functions and maintain the chemistry of the past month that made the 2022 team so dangerous will ultimately determine a lot for 2023. Much of the push to national title play proved everyone wrong. (you can find out more about that in the new book, Together, which goes to print this week and features new interviews with the five starting Tar Heels more Hubert Davis). There will be no doubt this pre-season. Expectations will be very different for 2023.
